Stock Purchases

Stock Purchases – February 2017

What’s up FIRE bronies. Time for some more stock purchases!

I’ve been doing some more buying, adding some of this and a little of that, hoping to catch a few deals in an expensive market.

Nuts and Bolts

I decided not to start any new positions but instead, added to existing companies I already own.

I’m pretty high on energy and utilities right now.

I will probably add more shares to AQN.

I’m still sitting on a large pile of cash at the moment and am really hoping for a correction sometime in this year.

Crash and burn!
Never sell bro.

    1. People will need light and heat during the good and bad times.
I will collect dividends in those times as well ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Been thinking about some utilities will try to fit one or 3 in while bringing up the rest of my profile.
You gonna be bringing in the cash with those purchases.

    1. Hey Doug,

I’m a little heavy with energy and utilities right now but I’m okay with that. I will probably add another 500 shares of AQN soon to bring my total to 2000.

      1. I would rather be heavy in those than mine right now. I’m heavy in tech and finance. So I am going to add other stuff for a bit. Have been looking at Aqn also

        1. I do think the banks have run too far too fast. I’m kind of split on tech.

I think the future belongs to tech but the companies need to show some value.

          1. I wouldn’t mind some Canadian banks they seem more stable but I do like community banks here because they seem more stable. I’m gonna see what BAC does as far as dividend raise.

    1. I started the year with some big purchases. I go through a cycle of saving a lot of cash than buying bigger positions. Just an old habit of trying to keep fees low.

$1,000 in forward dividends, man it feels crazy just to say that. Exciting.

    1. If you read up on AQN forward guidance, they plan on raising their dividend 10% a year through 2021 based on Empire acquisition.

I like safe in this environment.

  2. Hi Steve,

Thanks for sharing. I guess I’m jumping on the AQN bandwagon too! It looks great. Love the 10% dividend raises. My utilities only include Avista and Alterra Power. I’m down a bit in Alterra Power but up 38% in Avista. I’m such a value investor that it has been hard for me to buy more shares in companies that I’m up in. Thanks again for bringing some of these other utility companies to light!

    1. I hear you Scott,

Like you, I find it tough to buy into positions I’m up on.

I started investing in 2007 and I can’t help but feel like we are on the edge of the precipice of another crash. My whole line of thinking for buying stocks right now is deciding what ones will hold up the best if we are to experience a downturn.

    1. Hey Dan,

I shocked myself when I tallied my new dividend tallies! Every time I buy a new stock I kind of feel like I just got a raise.

    1. I thought it should have a while ago.

Only problem is there is nowhere to go with bond yields so low.

Personally, I always keep reserves to buy when there is blood in the streets ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Holly cow! Just look at that capital expenditure! That is some serious dough you laid out in one spending spree! That’s more then half of the income I was able to put to work for me in one year!
You will be reaching your financial freedom goals in no time if you keep this pattern up!

    1. Hi DD,

February was a large buying month. I haven’t updated my site yet but I added 3 new positions in Exco, Shaw and Enbridge.

I don’t plan to by much more until the market cools off a bit.

      Cheers
